50 watts per channel, those are PEAK ratings. The speaker sees a small fraction of that wattage most the time. Or at least that's how it always used to be. Hooking up an amp to your normal speakers makes sound quality improve by leaps and bounds. It isn't even close. I installed a 200W (4x50W) amplifier into a non-premium OEM Ford audio system way back in the day. It had 5x7s in the rear and something like 4 or 5" speakers up front. The difference was mindblowing.
